Medicinal Chemistry: Various facets of medicinal chemistry are being explored both in wet and dry labs by synthesizing pharmacologically active compounds both in solution and solid phase. Positional scanning protocol is used for the identification of leads in different combinatorial libraries of small drug like molecules synthesized in the wet lab. These concepts are also used in class room teaching by offering a course on medicinal chemistry to M.Phil/Ph.D. students Computer Aided Drug Designing: Work has also been carried out in the direction of Computer Assisted Drug Designing (CADD) and a CADD lab has been established. A number of software namely Molecular Operating Environment (MOE) VMD, AutoDoc, Accelrys etc. are being used for carrying out design and synthesis of small drug like molecules of potential pharmacological interest especially as enzyme inhibitors. The entire work has been funded by DAAD, HEC, PSF and URF. Software Development: A software comprising a number of Computer Aided Lessons (CALS) on Pericyclic Reactions has been developed. These lessons are a supplement to the book Electrocyclic Reactions ; from Fundamentals to Research, which is published by Wiley-VCH. The developed CALS are being used in the department as teaching aid which has greatly facilitated the comprehension of the seemingly cumbersome subject of pericyclic reactions
