Brazilian Corner inaugurated at Quaid-i-Azam University Central Library

The Ambassador of Brazil, H.E. Alfredo Leoni, has inaugurated, together with the Vice-Chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam University, Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, the Brazilian Corner at the Central Library of the University. The Embassy of Brazil donated more than 380 Brazilian books in English and Portuguese language, as well as DVDs and journals, which will be accommodated in the corner. The beautiful space, in the second floor of the Library, is also equipped with a modern studying area and computers.

The Brazilian Corner at Quaid-i-Azam is part of the effort of Brazil to strengthen its educational cooperation with Pakistan and to develop increased academic ties between the two countries. With the resources made available at the space, the thousands of students of the prestigious University will have access to the information necessary to develop their academic researches about Brazil and, thus, increase the ties that link Brazilians and Pakistanis.

To celebrate the inauguration of the corner and to encourage the use of the new resources, the Embassy of Brazil has also launched an essay contest for university students. Any Pakistani university student can participate by sending an essay about the cultural diversity of Brazil and run for prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 in cash. More information about the contest can be found at the Embassy’s website (www.embassyofbrazil.com.pk).

In addition to these initiatives, computers were donated to the Area Studies Center of Quaid-i-Azam, which will also hold a videoconference seminar with a Brazilian university in the days following the inauguration.
