Lending
Services
Dr.
Raziuddin Siddiqui Memorial Library is extending
this very important service to its patrons being
the oldest lending library in the region. Circulation
Desk / Counter provides lending service. Circulation
Section especially the circulation desk is considered
as the center of activities in the library being
directly involved with patron’s accounts.
Mostly readers have to deal with this section. This
section carry out number of functions such as registration
of members, renewal, and withdraw of membership/
clearances, issue/receive of books, charging of
overdue books, reservation of books, book loss /
damage cases, maintenance of records and statistics,
etc. Circulation Section is actually working in
front of the screen whereas all other library sections
such as acquisition, technical section (classification&
cataloguing), reference section and library automation/
computer section are basically working behind screen.
General
book collection including the oriental collection
of the library is available to all categories of
members for borrowing. Other library collections
including reference, reserve and special collections
are too available for study, browsing and consultation
with the facility of photocopying. However, these
are to be consulted within the library premises
only as these are non-issue able collections.

Open
Access
DRSM
Library offers open access to its users. In open access,
books, journals and other reading material are kept
open on shelves rather than in closed, lock and key
as this university library is basically research oriented.
Readers have thus direct access to academic sources
without any barrier.
General Reading Services
Large number of students, scholars and researchers of
other universities, institutions, foreign missions and
embassies etc are immensely using this library.
Reference and Information Services
Reference
and Information services provided by Central Library
aims to assist the users in the most effective use of
the invaluable information resources available in Reference
Section of library situated at the ground floor. This
section holds precious reference tools including encyclopedias,
dictionaries, biographical dictionaries, yearbooks,
almanacs, directories, atlases, surveys, gazetteers,
indexes, abstracts, bibliographies, biographies, research
reports, statistical year books, guides, maps, etc.
It provides reference service to fulfill the information
needs of the faculty members, students, and researchers.
The reference material can only be utilized inside the
library premises and cannot be borrowed.
Selective Dissemination of Information
(SDI)
SDI is an important segment of Reference and Information
Services being offered by DRSM Library. The concerned
staff supports this high level service by helping the
researcher to enable them to use these the library resources
more effectively leading to have access the exact literature.
Photocopy Services
For the convenience of library patrons and preservation
of precious library materials, extremely useful service
i.e. photocopying have been provided at each floor of
library premises at very nominal charges along with
binding, printing and lamination facilities.
Assistance
in the Use of Library
The library staff helps students to become effective
and independent learners, assisting in the locating
/ searching of library material, train clientele “how
to use of library catalogue or how to conduct a search
through OPAC.”
INTERNET
LAB
In
order to keep pace with the advance communication technology
in electronic information era, Computer Networking Cell
of University has established an Internet Lab at the
first floor of Library in which more than 45 latest
personal computers have been installed. All electronic
/ online journal databases secured by the Higher Education
Commission, Islamabad through Digital Library Programme
of PERI are freely accessible in this lab.
INTERNET
SERVICE RULES
Only
university students are eligible to use the Internet facility
free of cost.

Internet Lab administrator may check the ID cards of students
-
Internet user will register his / her name in the Internet
User Register.

Time duration for Internet use is 30 minutes. Ph.D. scholars
may request for more time.

Users will be penalized for browsing obnoxious materials.

Chat, messenger and mobile messaging are not allowed.
-
Priority will be given to Ph.D. scholars.
Newspapers
Library is subscribing more than 7 daily national, leading
newspapers in order to enhance the current affairs knowledge
of its patrons. Archives of three leading newspapers
are also maintained on monthly basis including The News,
The Dawn, and Nawa-i-Waqt.
Library Orientation
A library orientation program is being conducted after
each new admission in order to impart the library procedures
to new comers. The Librarian or his nominee also briefs
delegations and visitors.
Inter-Library
Loan (ILL)
DRSM
Library is extending Inter Loan Library services to
more than ten renowned libraries of different universities,
institutions and departments of Rawalpindi / Islamabad.
As, no single library can meet the needs of their patrons
even having enough financial resources. Through Inter
Library Loan transactions, library materials are made
available by one library to another library for use
of its clientele.
New
Arrivals
The new arrivals have been placed in front of general
book section near computer terminals. The flappers /
dust covers of new books are also placed on the notice
board of library.
Reserve Collection Section
This
section is possessing mostly latest editions of textbooks
of different disciplines. Usually, those books are kept
in Reserve Section which are essential readings (as
told by faculty to their students) and only one copy
is available in the library.
Special Collections
The
term Special Collection denotes the books, manuscripts,
newspapers and journals acquired by library, which are
rare and irreplaceable. DRSM Library enjoys substantial
special collections acquired from renowned intellectual
personalities such as Pir Hasam ud Din, Sheikh Ikram
and Late Javid Faiz. These collections have been kept
together and housed apart from the main library stock
at the ground floor. The main subject areas of these
collections are history, Islamic studies, political
science, English literature, law, philosophy, Persian,
Arabic and literature etc.
United Nations Depository Library
DRSM
Library is a depository library of U.N. publications.
Under an agreement, library receives the publications
of U.N.O. and its subordinate statuatory bodies. The
collections has been organized on the 3rd floor. It
is of special importance for researchers of history,
International relation, Anthropology and Defense and
strategic studies.

Cell
Book
Bank/Book Shop is an important component of library. Its
objectives as are as follows please.
