Department of Administrative sciences
The Department of Administrative Sciences
was established in 1975. It offers a Master's degree in Business
Administration and a Master's degree in Public Administration
in the morning and Master's degree in Business Administration
in the evening. The number of students admitted every year
in M.B.A. morning and M.P.A. morning programmes is about 60
each. The department admits 40 students on merit each September
in its M.B.A. (Evening) programme on self finance basis.
INTRODUCTION:
There has always been a great rush for admission to this department.
On the average the number of applicants has run over 1200
in each program. The graduates of the department have been
received very well in various organizations in the public
and in the private sectors. The students complete a 6-8 week
internship and undertake one-week industrial tour every year
to supplement their theoretical knowledge of management. The
department maintains a computer lab with 24 PCs and 7 Printers.
The department subscribes to some important professional journals.
Lately the funds for journals and book have been slashed for
economy reasons. Other than its full time faculty the department
every semester hires the services of over a dozen visiting
professors to teach various courses in the department. Since
Ph.D's in the subject of Business Administration are not available
in the market, there is an urgent need for faculty development
from University's own resources.
Most of the faculty time is spent on teaching,
examination, grading etc. Incoming M.B.A./M.P.A classes comprise
of 50-60 students which is a large class by any standards.
Some optional courses have over 80 students registered in
them. The teachers hardly have time for research activities.
The total students' enrolment in any given semester is about
300 students. Yet, the faculty is judged on research and publications
when comes to grant of privileges and incentives.
There is a growing demand for management
post-graduate education. Particulars demand for M.B.A degree
comes from holders of professional degree and those in service.
The department needs to be restructured to accommodate these
demands of diverse clientele. The library material books,
journals, etc. need to be expanded for M.B.A/M.P.A. students.
The Computer Lab needs to be strengthened.
Compared to the resources and command on resources, by other
institutes of Business Administration, the Quaid-i-Azam University,
Department of Administrative Sciences has done well. Our students
have been received well in the market. Given the special requirement
concerning admissions our student's intake ranges from very
good to week due to quota system and absence of tests for
admission. For the last many years (since fall 1993), the
Department has been contributing large for University treasury.
The increase in student numbers has placed tremendous demand
on the department personnel in terms of time and attention.
