The Department of Computer Science was established in 1976 at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad Pakistan.

The main objective of the establishment of this department was to produce computer scientists and Information Technology personnel in order to meet the growing demand for computer professionals in the country and to focus upon many challenging problems observed in the development and use of computers and computer based systems.

At Present, the department progressively offers M.Sc. and M.Phil degrees in Computer Science. The Department carefully selects the talented, research oriented MPhil Candidates in its Programme. Hopefully PhD programme in the Department will be started in Fall Semester 2010.

Department of Computer Science started MPhil Programme in Spring 2006. Todate 7 students have been awarded MPhil degrees and currently 22 students are enrolled under the program. The standard of the MPhil program's research aspect is evident from the publications presented in International Conference Proceedings given on the publications webpage.

The M.Sc. degree Program of the department has been highly successful. Our graduates have attained higher degrees from developed countries and are working in very well reputed national and international organizations. So far we have produced largest number of computer science graduates in the country.
