Assignment of Scholastic Status


Each student is assigned a two-letter abbreviated status and remarks on the transcript according to the scholastic achievements during the semester. Each status reflects the changes in the academic achievements and has been individually explained below.

(i) A student shall be required to pass at least 12 credits of course work in each of 1st and 2nd semester failing which the student shall be deemed to have failed in the respective semester.
A student shall be required to pass at least 9-credits of course work in each of 3rd and 4th semester failing which the student shall be deemed to have failed in the respective semester.
A student failing to pass 60 credits of course work at the end of the 4th semester, shall be required to pass in the 5 the semester at least 9 credits of course work or all the remaining credits if less than 9, failing which the student shall be deemed to have failed in that semester.
A student failing to pass 60 credits of course work at the end of the 5th semester, shall be required to pass in the 6th semester all the remaining credits, failing which the student shall be deemed to have failed in the semester.

(ii) In each of the first and second semesters a student will be required to obtain a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.5 failing which he/she shall be deemed to have failed in that semester.

(iii) The supervisor shall submit progress reports towards the end of the third and fourth semester to the Controller of Examination and beyond, if permitted to continue. If two consecutive reports are unsatisfactory, he/she shall cease to be a student of the University.

(iv) In addition to a satisfactory progress report in the third semester, a student shall continue to maintain a CGPA of 2.5 on the basis of course work taken up in that semester. If the CGPA is less than 2.5 he/she shall cease to be a student of the University.

a. Chance


• M.Sc/MBA/MPA

A student, who has failed under Clause XII (I), may be given one chance as a concession to continue his/her studies, such a concession shall be granted ONLY ONCE during the entire period of study for the Master's degree.

• M.Phil

A student who has failed in any semester under Clause XII (ii) may be given one chance as a concession to continue his/her studies. Such a concession shall be granted ONLY ONCE during the entire period of study for M.Phil degree.


b. Ceased


• M.Sc/MBA/MPA

A student failing TWICE under Clause XII (i) shall cease to be a student of the University. A student failing to pass 60 credits course work at the end of the 6th semester shall cease to be a student of the University.

• M.Phil

A student failing twice under Clause XII (ii) shall cease to be a student of the University. The supervisor shall submit two progress reports during the third and fourth semester as provided under clause XII (III) to the controller of Examination. If both reports are unsatisfactory, he/she shall cease to be a student. A student who, by the end of the third semester, does not pass 24 credits of course work or does not maintain a CGPA of 2.5 shall be deemed to have failed and shall cease to be a student of the University as provided under Clause XII (iv).


c. Promoted


• M.Sc/MBA/MPA

A student shall be required to pass at least 12 credits of course work in each of 1st and 2nd semester. A student shall be required to pass at least 9-credits of course work in each of 3rd and 4th semester A student failing to pass 60 credits of course work at the end of the 4th semester, shall be required to pass in the 5 the semester at least 9 credits of course work or all the remaining credits if less than 9. A student failing to pass 60 credits of course work at the end of the 5th semester, shall be required to pass in the 6th semester all the remaining credits.

• M.Phil

A student will be required to obtain a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.5.


d. Dropped


A student dropping all the registered courses or choosing not to register in any course during a semester will deem to have dropped the semester. The dropped semester shall be counted towards the maximum period of six semesters allowed for completing the degree.

e. Passed

A student will be declared passed if he/she successfully completes all the requirements set for a degree from QAU.

f. Non-Credit (NC)

A student may register for non-credit courses during a semester. Such courses shall appear on the transcript as "NC".

g. Progress (PG)

A student may not complete a course in one semester, that course is mentioned in progress .Such courses shall appear on the transcript as "PG".

h. Absent (AB)

A student absent in a course during examination is mentioned "AB" on the transcript.
