Preparing for the M.Sc Physics Admission
Test at Quaid-i-Azam University Every semester the physics
department receives a large number of applications from students
seeking to obtain an M.Sc degree in physics. As part of the
selection mechanism, applicants are required to appear for
an admission test that examines their understanding of the
following four basic areas of physics:
• Classical mechanics
• Electricity and magnetism
• Waves and Oscillations
• Modern physics
• Mathematics
Those who wish to appear for the admission test will find
the following preparation materials useful:
1. Past test papers. These are available on the QAU physics
website. It will be to the candidates advantage to work through
the problems.
2. B.Sc level books such as Fundamentals of Physics by Halliday
and Resnick, or College Physics by Wilson and Buffa.
3. Lecture notes by Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy, also on the QAU physics
website. The lectures are also available on video from the
QAU physics office.
