Admission Policy Including Eligibility Criteria
M.Sc.
Statistics with Mathematics A-course/Mathematics B-course/ Mathematics General in B.A/B. Sc.
M.SC. (Statistics) SYLLABII
A total of 60 credits are to be completed for M. Sc. degree in Statistics. Two hours of practical count for one credit. Six optional courses may be registered from ST-401 to ST-410. However, in case a student registers Course ST-411 then he has to register four other courses from ST-401 to ST-410. The courses offered in other departments can be registered by a student instead of Courses ST-401 to ST-410 with the consent of the concerned two Chairpersons.
M.Phil.
To be eligible for admission in M.Phil. (Statistics) a candidate:
i) shall possess an M.A/M.Sc. degree or equivalent in the Statistics discipline
ii) shall have obtained 1st division in M.Sc. or B.Sc.
iii) shall have not obtained 3rd division in M.Sc. or B.Sc.
in case of 3rd division in F.Sc. the candidate should have obtained 1st division in both M.Sc. and B.Sc.
Ph.D.
To be eligible for admission in Ph.D. (Statistics) a candidate must have: i) An M.Phil degree or its equivalent in the Statistics discipline from a recognized university. ii) A college/university teacher or member of the research staff of a research organization who has shown undoubted promise for research and holds M.Sc. degree may be recommended by the Admission Committee for admission to Ph.D. programme. After successful completion of two semesters, a student registered for M.Phil degree may be transferred, on the recommendations of the Admissions Committee of the department to the Research Board , to the Ph.D. programme, provided that the student has passed all the 24 credits of the M.Phil course work, obtaining an aggregate of 75% marks or more. The time spent by the candidate in the M.Phil course work may be counted towards the residence requirement for Ph.D. programme. iv) No Objection Certificate from the employer is required to be attached with admission form routed through proper channel in case of in-service candidate.
