ADMISSION NOTICE FOR M.PHIL PROGRAMME SPRING SEMESTER-2008

Applications on the prescribed forms are invited for admission to the M.Phil programme of the University in the following subjects:-
ELIGIBILITY:
The candidate must have:-
i) 1st Division in M.A/M.Sc. degree or its equivalent or B.A./B.Sc. but no 3rd division in M.A./M.Sc. or B.A B.Sc.
ii) In case of 3rd division in F.A/F.Sc., the candidate should have 1st division in both B.A/B.Sc. and M.A/M.Sc.or its equivalent degree.

	Subject/Area of Study	Requirement
1	Anthropology	M.A/M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in Anthropology/Sociology/ Behavioural Sciences.
2	American Studies	M.A/M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in U.S. Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Defence & Strategic Studies, History, Pakistan Studies, English Literature, Anthropology and Sociology.
3	Faculty of Biological Sciences i) Animal Sciences: ii) Plant Sciences: iii) Microbiology: iv) Biotechnology: v) Biochemistry:	a) M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in any field of Biological Sciences from a recognized University. Candidates holding MBBS/DVM/B.Pharmacy/B.Sc.(Hons).Agriculture with 1st Division may apply. b) The M.Phil Biological Sciences programme offers the following specializations: - Endocrinology, Reproductive Biology, Animal Physiology. Plant Physiology, Plant Taxonomy, Environmental Biology, Plant Biotechnology Cell & Molecular Biology, Genetics & Genomics,Plant Biochemistry and Bioinformatics. Applied Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, Mycology, Plant Tissue Culture. Biotechnology. Biochemistry, Molecular Plant Breading, Enzymology, Pharmacology, Clinical Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Nutrition, Immunochemistry, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics.
4	Chemistry	M.Sc. degree in Chemistry or its equivalent with specialization in Physical or Organic or Inorganic/Analytical Chemistry. Candidates who have studied Mathematics in M.Sc. or B.Sc/F.Sc. will get preference in Physical and Inorganic/Analytical Chemistry.
5	Computer Science	M.Sc. in Computer Science or B.S./BCS (4 years) in Computer Science, Software Engineering.
6	Defence & Strategic Studies	M.A/M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in Defence & Strategic Studies, Security/ War Studies, Political Science, International Relations, Defence & Diplomatic Studies, Pakistan Studies.
7	Economics	M.A/M.Sc. degree in Economics or its equivalent (M.A/M.Sc. in Agriculture Economics/ Business Economics & Home Economics are not eligible).
8	Electronics	M.Sc. or its equivalent degree in Electronics/Computer Science/Physics/Applied Physics or B.Sc. Engineering (Electronic/Electrical).
9	Earth Sciences	M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in Geophysics/Hydrogeology.
10	History	M.A/M.Sc. in History.
11	International Relations	M.A/M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in International Relations, Political Science, Strategic Studies. Those engaged in teaching or research in the above disciplines may also apply.
12	Mathematics	M.A./M.Sc. in Mathematics/Physics or its equivalent degree.
13	Physics	M.Sc. in Physics or its equivalent degree.
14	Statistics	M.A/M.Sc. in Statistics or its equivalent degree

The Admission Forms can be obtained from the Manager, Book bank/Bookshop of Quaid-i-Azam University by depositing Rs.600/- or by sending a crossed postal order of Rs.650/- including postal charges, in favour of the Treasurer, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
Three copies of application on prescribed forms duly supported by the attested photostat copies of the certificates of academic qualifications, domicile, character, detailed marks, migration (in original) along with 5 (five) passport size photographs and No Objection Certificate from the employer, in case of in-service candidates, should reach the Chairman/Director of the respective Department/Institute by 31-01-2008 during office hours.
Written test will be held on 04-02-2008 in the respective Department/Institute according to the following schedule: -

The date and time of interview shall be announced by each Department/Institute after the test. No separate call up letter for test/interview will be issued. Hostel accommodation will only be provided, if available. “Sample Paper”for the aptitude test of M.Phil. Physics is available on the University Website.
