The Computer Centre, established in 1972 and was equipped with IBM-360 (Mainframe Computer). The main objective was to provide computing facilities to the students, teachers and research scholars.
In the early 1980s, personal computing facilities were introduced to the students in the centre. As the IBM-360 became obsolete in 1987, so it was replaced with a mainframe computer NEC-610 system that was capable of providing online computing facilities to the users. It remained operational till 1996 and served the purpose. This system was removed due to lack of hardware/systems software maintenance support from the vendor. Afterwards, a mini computer IBM AS/400 along with twenty Pentium intelligent terminals was installed in the center to provide computing facilities to the users. The PC’s environment and network computing also gained widespread acceptance and organizations prefer to have desktop computers for their workers to improve their productivity. Personal Computers are delivering enormous computing power and functionality with less cost. The Centre provides tremendous facilities to the students to learn about such technologies. At present, the Computer Centre is equipped with Servers, microcomputers (Pentium IV) in three computer labs that are networked and are capable of running various software applications under Windows, Unix, and Linux Operating Systems environment. Internet facilities are available for students in the computer labs. The services provided by the Computer Centre are of great benefit to the teaching and research activities.
