Annual Report
2011
The department of Economics, the first department within the Faculty of Social Sciences, was established in 1967.The main
objective was to impart quality teaching in economic theory and quantitative methods of economic analysis and research.
Initially, it started its M.Sc. degree program and later on introduced M.Phil.and Ph.D. courses in 1978 and 1987, respectively.
After more than four decades of public service and nation building, the Department has been transformed into the School of
Economics and has successfully launched the BS Economics (four-yearprogram) in Fall semester 2010.
The main aim of the department is to strengthen education-employment linkages for graduates of the School of Economics
through networking with prospective employers in the public and private sector, non-government organizations and
international organizations, as well as to enhance dissemination of the quality research produced at the School through
various channels of communication and forums of knowledge exchange.
