Seminar on “Unification of the Korean Peninsula” by H.E. Dr. Song Jong-Hwan

The School of Politics and International Relations, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, organized a seminar on Korean peninsula and the threat of cyber terrorism on 27th of March 2015. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Director SPIR, welcomed the distinguished guests and highlighted the importance of the strategic competition in North East Asia, particularly the conflict in the Korean Peninsula. H.E Dr. Song Jong-Hwan, Ambassador of Republic of Korea during his presentation on “Unification of Korean Peninsula: When, Why and Bonanza” shared his insights and experiences with the students and highlighted the importance of unification of North and South Korea for the Korean people and regional economic prosperity. He emphasized that the United Korea would be able to foster new economic and investment opportunities in Asia. H.E. offered his assistance to the SPIR students in getting scholarships in renowned South Korean universities.
Professor KOH Young Choul, Research Professor at Institute for International Development, Takushoku University, Tokyo make a presentation on “International Cyber-Terrorism and Counter measures.” While highlighting the repercussions of cyber terrorism in today’s world he termed it as a “war without gunfire.” It can cause economic damages than traditional wars. He stated that Pakistan has set the death penalty for cyber terrorism but at international level there are no specific legislations related to the cybercrimes. There is a dire need to take countermeasures in Pakistan and across the globe to deal with cyber threats.
While concluding the session, Dr. Ahmed Ijaz Malik emphasized the role of international players in the solution of Korean problem as well as chalking out a comprehensive strategy to combat the Cyber Terrorism.
